BEST MOVIES OF 2014: #4/5--FOXCATCHER/boyhood

Wow, what a tragically beautiful film. FOXCATCHER may not be the easiest movie to watch, but the film is so haunting and devastatingly intriguing that the good outshines the bad. Carell, Tatum, and Ruffalo give career-best performances, and Bennett Miller directs them with pure sincerity. Beautifully shot and scripted, this is a rarity in cinema that glorifies the modern American rich man and the deteriorating soul that accompanies that. Foxcatcher is a great film, and a triumph on screen. (A-).

Though it may not have the strongest plot or the most charming child acting, BOYHOOD is not just a gimmick--it is a great movie. To see these people grow and to see them younger now is absolutely amazing. What Linklater achieves is not the best film of the year, per my opinion, but it has the heart and soul to be #5 on my list. I'm not going to do a full review for the top 5, (some I've already reviewed) but I will give my grade.
 Story/Script- 18/20
 Acting- 18/20 (Strong Supporting Roles!)
 Sight- 17/20
 Sound- 18/20
 Directing- 18/20
OVERALL: 89/100 (A-)
